Tinjauan Penerapan Sosial Media dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Asing di Asia
Abstract
The application of technology in the all-digital era in foreign language learning plays an important role from an academic standpoint. A number of studies were conducted to determine the application of social media in the process of learning foreign languages. However, experimental research on foreign language skills using social media as a learning tool has received little attention. The purpose of this study is to present the results of a thematic review of the latest and relevant literature on the application of social media in foreign language learning in Asia, regarding the opportunities and constraints of its application in the context of foreign language learning in Asia. The selection of research articles was selected through the Google Scholar and Sciencedirect database and found 15 relevant articles that met the criteria. The results of this study indicate that the application of social media in the process of learning foreign languages in Asia has potential benefits for improving the language skills of foreign language learners, increasing cross-cultural understanding and increasing students' motivation and confidence in learning. Despite the benefits of this pedagogy, there are still obstacles that prevent this media from being implemented effectively, mainly related to the problem of using incompatible mobile devices, varying skill levels of learners, and inappropriate content on social media platforms. To some extent the findings of this study are in line with the findings of previous studies conducted within the same framework.
